A Day of Impact and Inspiration: Kit-a-Child to School 2025

Because Every Child Deserves a Chance to Learn

On May 27th, 2025Children’s Day, the Global Initiative for Women in Leadership (GIFWIL) successfully hosted yet another powerful edition of the Kit-a-Child to School Project. This year’s event brought together children, parents, educators, and community leaders in a spirited celebration of education, empowerment, and care.

More than just the distribution of school kits, it was a day of hope, connection, and transformation.

A Message that Resonated

One of the most powerful moments of the event came from a special guest speaker from the United States, who delivered a thoughtful session on anger management for teachers and caregivers. In his engaging address, he emphasized the importance of patience, emotional intelligence, and trauma-informed practices while working with children; reminding everyone that teaching is not just a profession, but a mission rooted in love and empathy.

Adding an artistic flair to the occasion, a renowned Nollywood director also addressed the children with a timely message: “Work hard, but don’t forget to play.” He encouraged the young ones to pursue their dreams with discipline while maintaining a healthy balance between study and self-expression.

A Mother’s Dream in Motion

In her heartfelt remarks, GIFWIL Founder, Dr. (Mrs.) Sarah Umahi, shared her vision for the Kit-a-Child initiative, describing it as a “dream born out of compassion and a refusal to let poverty steal the joy of learning from any child.” She reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to expanding the reach of the program, especially in underserved communities across Nigeria.

The Kits that Keep Giving

This year’s edition saw the distribution of school uniforms, backpacks, notebooks, writing materials, hygiene essentials, and water bottles to the children. Many of the beneficiaries were children previously at risk of dropping out. Their smiles told stories of new beginnings.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on the success of this year’s event, we are filled with gratitude, for our volunteers, sponsors, and every supporter who made this possible. But the work isn’t done.

With your continued support, we can reach even more children, equip more classrooms, and build stronger futures.
