Food Bank Relief Project Heads to Benue: Restoring Dignity with Every Meal

In the heart of Benue State, thousands of families are waking up each day in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps – far from the homes, lands, and livelihoods they once knew.

For many, life changed in an instant.

Villages once alive with laughter, farming, and tradition were shattered by the terror of violent attacks. Entire communities were sacked by armed herdsmen, forcing families – men, women, and countless children – to flee for safety, leaving behind everything they had ever known.

But even in displacement, hope still breathes.

On June 2nd, 2025, the Global Initiative for Women in Leadership (GIFWIL) will be taking its Food Bank Relief Project to one of the largest IDP camps in Benue State. This outreach is not just about food, it’s about restoring dignity, showing compassion, and reminding displaced families that they are not forgotten.

This outreach is not just about food, it’s about restoring dignity, showing compassion, and reminding displaced families that they are not forgotten.

Why This Matters

The crisis in Benue and surrounding regions is one of loss, resilience, and survival. Most of the camp’s residents have endured unthinkable trauma – from losing loved ones, to watching their homes burn, to raising children in makeshift shelters with no stable source of food, clean water, or healthcare.

Our Food Bank Relief Project is a lifeline in such times. We aim to deliver nutritious food items, clean water, sanitary supplies, and emotional support to as many families as we can reach—especially women, children, and the elderly.

More Than a Meal: A Tradition of Compassion in Action

The Food Bank Relief Project isn’t just a one-off charity effort—it’s a deep part of GIFWIL’s heartbeat.

Over the years, this initiative has reached vulnerable communities with food, support, and hope—especially during times of disaster, displacement, and distress. From flood-ravaged areas to urban slums and underserved rural settlements, GIFWIL has continued to show up where help is needed most, bridging the gap between survival and dignity.

This upcoming outreach to the IDP camp in Benue is no different.

We are coming with intentional care—not just to give, but to stand with these families, to remind them they are not alone, and that even in pain, there is still community and compassion.

Here’s What We’re Bringing Along:

🟡 Staple food supplies – Bags of rice, beans, garri, and maize meal to ease hunger and provide sustenance.

🟢 Cooking essentials – Cooking oil, salt, tomato paste, seasoning cubes, and other items to help families prepare nourishing meals.

🔵 Safe drinking water – Packaged bottled water to reduce the risk of waterborne illness in the camp.

🟣 Hygiene and sanitary kits – Soaps, menstrual hygiene products, toothbrushes, and disinfectants to promote health and dignity.

🧡 Medical care and checkups – A team of volunteer health professionals will be on ground to offer basic medical screening, first aid, malaria treatment, and referrals for urgent care.

🧸 Support for children and mothers – Nutritional packs for children, expectant and nursing mothers, alongside friendly interaction and emotional support.

This is GIFWIL’s promise in action – to respond with heart, hands, and help.

Together, with your support, we will turn heartbreak into healing, and scarcity into strength.
