
On Sunday, June 15th, 2025, the Badminton Fitness for Good Health Tournament brought together fitness lovers, health professionals, and advocates for community wellness in a powerful blend of sport and purpose. Hosted by the Global Initiative for Women in Leadership (GIFWIL), this event was more than a competition, it was a celebration of movement, mental health, and holistic well-being.
Participants from across Abuja turned out in high spirits, rallying for fitness and awareness. The tournament featured exciting badminton matches across different age categories, uniting both seasoned players and enthusiastic first-timers. Beyond the competition, the day stood out for the meaningful conversations it sparked.



Mental Health Takes Center Court
One of the most impactful moments of the event came during a mental health session led by Dr. James Iwowarri, who reminded everyone that health isn’t just physical ;it is mental and emotional too. In his engaging talk, Dr. James addressed issues like stress, anxiety, burnout, and the importance of regular exercise in maintaining emotional balance. His message strongly resonated with participants, especially given the increasing pressures of daily life.

“Mental health is not just a conversation for hospitals. It’s a conversation for homes, schools, offices – and even sports arenas,” Dr. James shared.
